How Much Does an In-Ground Swimming Pool Cost?

Keywords: swimming pool cost, swimming pool design, gunite

The cost of any kind of a swimming pool is influenced by the type of material used, the skill and training of the contractor, the size and finish of the pool and the additional features added to the pool once it is installed. Also (and this might be obvious) but the bigger the pool or the higher the number of depth changes that are involved, the more the cost will increase. Here are some other determining factors:

Where You Live

Pool costs in some locations will be higher than in others, just like with real estate. Also, if you only have one pool contractor in your area, that person might bump up their prices a little. In other areas, several contractors might have price wars that could benefit potential customers.

If you are looking at a highly recommended pool contractor, make sure their price is actually worth the name. For instance, a pool company that designed and built a pool for a famous person might get some referral business as a result; however, they will have to continue to prove themselves to keep that fame. Bottom line: Don't hire based on just one referral.

Materials and Features

Materials for the pool will raise the price as well, with the best material, gunite, being among the top prices. However, gunite is the material that will create the strongest, most durable pool and will be well worth the cost in the long run.

A final consideration for your pool should be its yearly cost. Instead of looking at the initial cost only, look at the divided cost over the expected lifetime of the pool as a whole.
